The large-scale video projection created from a single photograph taken during our Civil Partnership ceremony on May 31st, 2025, marking twenty-five years since we first met. The video unfolds in a reverse cascade of digital confetti that slowly disappears, gradually revealing the photograph beneath. In the final frame, my partner and I are captured in a moment of elation; our faces still partially obscured by real confetti, our identities both present and slightly veiled. The work plays with visibility, celebrating joy while acknowledging the complexities of being truly seen or witnessed. This piece is a meditation on Queer Joy and resilience, but it also speaks to the significance of visible representation, particularly that of an interracial couple.
I set out to create a video work that would bring joy to both myself and my life partner; a gesture of love, reflection, and celebration. I hope to offer a quiet invitation to others, to imagine, to see, and perhaps to feel affirmed who may otherwise feel excluded or othered.
